Nichol’s PLC are berry excited to announce latest fundraising challenge!

Nichol’s PLC are proud to announce that their staff are aiming to hit new heights in their latest fundraising challenge which will be raising funds for Warrington Youth Zone. The 10-strong team are taking part in the National Three Peaks Challenge, where participants aim to conquer the summits of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours.

The Newton-le-Willows based drinks company, and producer of the iconic soft drink Vimto, will be kicking off the challenge on Friday 21st of April. They will begin with an early morning climb of the 1,345m-high Ben Nevis in Scotland, before travelling to the Lake District to conquer the 978m summit of Scafell Pike – the tallest in England.

The footsore fund-raisers will then face another race against time to drive to Wales for the final stage, which means scaling the 1,085m summit of Snowdon in the early hours of the morning.

The team is headed up by Lee Gibson and 5 teammates from Vimto along with 2 representatives from Warrington Youth Zone and Bill Carr who is a trustee at the youth organisation. The group will be led by adventurer and outdoor enthusiast Colin Woolford who is an experienced Mountain leader and support from adventurer Alex Staniforth who is an outdoor ambassador for Youth Zone and founder of the charity Mind Over Mountains.

Over the course of 24 hours, the team will take on a gruelling trek, climbing 11,181 feet and travelling 464,  facing winter weather conditions, night climbs, and little sleep in the hope of raising much needed funds.

The money raised from this thigh burning challenge will be donated to Warrington Youth Zone, which provides the young people of the town access to 21st Century Youth Provision. The state-of-the-art facility is open to young people aged 7-19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs.

More than a youth club, they provide local young people with over 100 different activities a week, whether it is for fun or for their future, membership is just £5 per year and then 50p every time they visit, the on-site café provides hot meals for £1.

Lee Gibson Service Delivery Controller at Nichols said, ‘We are committed to giving back to the community at Vimto and each year all team members are given a day off work to help a local cause. We call it ‘Day to make a difference’. The day is normally hard work, lots of fun and very worthwhile but this year the IT team have decided to literally use every minute of the 24 hours and push ourselves to the limit. Joining forces with the Youth Zone is always great and we are very excited to be taking on this challenge with them. Raising funds for the superb work they do will make a massive difference to the lives of young people and their families in Warrington.’’

Sophie Bentley Head of Fundraising at WYZ said; “This challenge isn’t for the faint hearted and requires some real tenacity. We are so very grateful and proud of everyone taking part, and our long-standing relationship with Vimto is something that we cherish. Not only will this event raise vital funds for our Youth Zone, but it will also allow us to show our young people that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. Good luck Guys, we will see you at the finish line.”
