Last week, we had an incredible time running our Animal Management and our Public Service National Careers Services programmes for our young people.
NCS is about getting Year 11s, or anyone who is 16 or 17 years old, ready for their next step, whatever it may be, through social action/volunteering, independent living skills, and employability and work readiness skills.
We would like to offer special thanks to Burtonwood & Winwick Community Bus and PSD, who provided their van; without their help and support, the programmes wouldn’t have been able to go ahead, and we wouldn’t have been able to inspire a group of young adults towards their future careers.
Animal Management NCS
We’d also like to extend our appreciation to Eccles Sixth Form College, who welcomed our Animal Management cohort of the NCS programme.
The young people had an amazing time and got so much out of the programme. One young person said: “This week I learnt plenty of new awesome animal management skills, and I got to see many animals I’ve never seen before! It was amazing and super interesting.”
Public Service NCS
We would like to thank Winwick Fire Station for taking the time to welcome our young people from the public service NCS. The young people got so much from the visit and learnt a lot about what it takes to be a firefighter and all the skills needed for the job.
Thank you to David Naylor and the team at Fulwood Preston Army Barracks, who worked with our young people on Tuesday.
They taught our young people independent living skills/employability, work readiness skills, and so much more. The young people took part in some team building activities and they came together from a group of individuals to a team.
On Wednesday, our young people visited Safety Central in Lymm.
There, they learnt a lot of new skills from independent living skills/employability, work readiness skills and social action skills.
The young people learnt lots at this incredible centre and took part in a mock court and learnt what it takes to be a police officer. The young people had an incredible day and pushed themselves out of their comfort zone.
We would like to thank The British Red Cross who taught the young people some incredible lifesaving skills through first aid and what to do and what not to do in an Emergency. The young people were really engaged and loved taking part in the session.
Finally, a big thank you to Signing Solutions, who came into the Youth Zone to teach our young people the value of communication skills through BSL (British Sign Language). It was a skill that our young people hadn’t done before and found verry interesting and engaging.
