Jack Taylor, a youth worker at Warrington Youth Zone, has received national recognition after being crowned Youth Worker of the Year at the OnSide Power of Youth Work Conference.
The event, which was held at The Way, Wolverhampton Youth Zone, brought together youth workers from across the country.
The conference gave attendees the opportunity to share learnings, hear directly from young people and explore how youth work continues to change lives.
Members of OnSide’s Youth Advisory Board opened the event, sharing powerful stories about the difference youth workers have made in their lives, followed by sessions on engagement, inclusion and mentoring.
The day ended on a high with the OnSide Power of Youth Work Awards, recognising outstanding contributions across the OnSide network.
The highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of Taylor from Warrington Youth Zone as Youth Worker of the Year.
The 24-year-old was nominated for his extraordinary empathy, unwavering belief in young people, and his ability to connect with those who may find it hardest to trust.
Known affectionately among young people as the person to call when things get tough, “Get Jack” is a common phrase at Warrington Youth Zone.
Jack is a trusted mentor and role model for many, and his compassion and commitment have had a profound impact on some of Warrington’s most vulnerable young people, helping them find safety, confidence and hope.
From guiding young people through emotional challenges to inspiring them through boxing and martial arts, his dedication continues to transform hundreds of young people’s lives.
“It means a lot to win this award,” he said.
“It goes without saying that I couldn’t have done it without the support of the incredible team at Warrington Youth Zone, who continue to shape the lives of local young people every day.”
Warrington Youth Zone CEO Dave McNicholl said: “I am really proud of our whole team at Warrington Youth Zone who go above and beyond every day to place the needs of children and young people at the forefront of everything they do.
“Three of our team were shortlisted for awards at the conference: Molly Swatton for her work with disabled children and young people, Gary Miller for the Unsung Hero Award, and Jack Taylor for Youth Worker of the Year.
“Jack has grown up through Warrington Youth Club as a member, volunteer and then as a pod youth worker.
“He now leads our Senior section and is building our programme for senior members in a way which is inclusive, vibrant and supportive. We are all really proud of Jack, and he completely deserves this award and recognition.”
OnSide CEO Jamie Masraff said: “Jack exemplifies outstanding youth work. His belief in young people, compassion and willingness to meet them where they are reflects the values we champion at OnSide.
“We’re incredibly proud to celebrate him and all the youth workers across our network who give so much of themselves to help young people realise their potential.”
